Eat Local Ballarat is a magazine-style website for locavores – people who eat locally-sourced food – in and around Ballarat, a city of approximately 100,000 people in central Victoria, Australia.

We regularly post resources, tips, and delicious ideas to help you experience all the wonderful local food that the region has to offer.  We cover everything from farmers markets and local producers, to independent retailers, homegrown and foraged food, community food events, seasonal eating, and more.

Eating locally supports our community and tastes great. The Ballarat region is a rich agricultural area with a wealth of local food. We want to make eating locally approachable, easy, and mouth-wateringly appealling, and help everyone in and around Ballarat experience the benefits of getting closer to where our food comes from.

Who’s behind it?

Eat Local Ballarat is a personal project created by Alex Bayley, partly to connect better with the local food community, and partly as an experiment in online publishing.

Alex is a professional website consultant who lives in central Ballarat with a veggie garden, two bicycles, a Macbook Air, and a pantry full of preserves. Find Alex on Twitter as @alexbayleaf.
